The Bar
Ask anyone that knows about "night life" in Elko and they will tell you that Matties is definitely the place to go for fun. Every day we have a great happy hour to get you started. If it is Karaoke that you want, don’t miss Thursday nights at Matties; and, for us, it is not enough to be the best bar in town. Every so often we really kick up our heels and leave the others wondering ... Our special events, keep people coming back year after year. Including our famous homemade bikini contest that rocks Elko every August!
Our bar is unlike any you will ever see. From our funky retro lounge to the traditional sporting activities, including the biggest pool tables in town, fooze ball, darts... we have a little bit of everything. It is definitely a bar where anyone can feel at home.
The best thing about our bar is the friendly people and great service. We offer the full restaurant menu anytime and guarantee that you will not find better looking cocktail waitresses anywhere in town. The regulars, that call Matties their second home, will be happy to tell you, in our bar, you are only a stranger once.

The Restaurant
At Matties good customer service is our number one concern. Our Customer Bill Of Rights guarantees it. We are proud to have the friendliest service in town. The only thing as important as making you feel comfortable is feeding you great food. Our menu is great American style food. We are known for our ½ pound burgers and homemade fries. If you are looking for something a little fancier, our steaks are the best around.
At Matties it not just a meal, it is an experience. Our restaurant has a hometown theme that will make you realize and appreciate what a great town Elko is. We love living and doing business in Elko. Our restaurant is bursting with Elko pride. We have a mural (scroll down to learn about the mural) that depicts the unique aspects of our little town. There are also picture windows everywhere that give you a glimpse of our rich past, and our exciting town today.

The Mural
The Mural, painted by the Elko High School Art Club, was completed in May of 2003. Fifteen Art Students and their advisors spent four months creating this artistic interpretation of our unique town.
When viewing the mural we recommend that you start at the old church in Lamoille (the far left hand side of the mural) and slowly walk through the experience of our town ... as you travel through The Grove, be quiet so you don’t disturb the wildlife ... and be careful not get in the way of all the people playing in the Ruby Mountains ... You may want to stop and take in a rodeo at the Spring Creek Horse Palace or go fishing at The Marina ... A lot of people in Spring Creek golf so if you plan on playing a round call now for a tee time ... As you continue north on the Lamoille Highway, please drive slowly, our most valuable citizens may be outside at recess ... If you have time, go down to Southfork Reservoir for a boat ride ... It’s been a pretty full day so far, you may be in a hurry to get over Lamoille Summit and into town ... Hope you don’t get in too big a hurry, like the young lady in the pink Cadillac ... If you must drive fast, you could stop at the Summit Raceway, but please don’t let our extra terrestrial friends take you away, you’re not even to town yet ... you made it! You're across the river, past the railroad tracks and almost into town ... Be careful not to get in the way of the people working at the Gold Mine, they are an important part of Elko’s economy ... As you pass the airport, you may be getting hungry, it’s a great time for a pit stop at Matties Bar and Grill (this would be a perfect time for your friendly server to arrive and take your order) ... After Matties and maybe a movie, we encourage you to take a stroll through beautiful downtown Elko ... Wait! look out for the skier coming down the slopes at the Snow Bowl ... When you get downtown, wave to the people in front of the court house on their way to Jarbidge for the Shovel Brigade ... There’s the old post office and the historic Pioneer Hotel ... A lot of people are in town for the Motorcycle Jamboree ... For more of Elko’s rich culture stop by the Western Folklife Center and then on to Railroad Park ... What a busy day, take a little time to relax and listen to the High School Band as you watch the parade go by on Idaho Street ... Do you have time for some leisure reading at the Library or a football game at the High School? The outdoor amphitheatre at Great Basin College is a great place to stop and see a play ... but if you hurry, you can make it to the Fair Grounds in time to place a bet on your favorite horse at the Elko County Fair. We hope you still have some energy left, you just got to the park, there is going to be a lot of softball, swimming, skateboarding and play at the Johnny Appleseed ... Save some energy for tonight, there is a dance at the Basque House during the International Basque Festival. First, you are in for a treat, the next stop is at the Northeastern Nevada Museum, have a great time but remember and please don’t feed the bears ... While you’re there how about a history lesson at the historic Pony Express Cabin? Then go down the street to the Chamber of Commerce for more history at the Sherman Station ... After so much history, it will be fun to go to the Elko Convention Center and learn about Elko’s economy today at the Mining Expo or more of Elko’s diverse culture at the Cowboy Poetry Gathering. If you can’t see the golf course from here, City Hall is just across the street, they can give you directions to Ruby View for another 18 holes ... the National Weather Service and the State Wildlife offices are just up the road ... but before you head out of town, stop for some shopping ... or try your luck at a casino. As you get back onto I-80 take time to notice a billboard giving credit to the artists who have created this wonderful experience for you. Although they created the mural, you help to create the unique experience of our town. Please don’t stay away too long.
As you can see, we included just about everything about Elko in our mural! We are very proud of this unique work of art and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do.
